Regina Housing Highlights - Sept 13, 2023
Affordable, charming, walkable housing in Canada for sale under $250,000
This week we’re trying something new, entitled “Housing Highlights.”
You’ve probably been reading a lot in the news lately about Canada’s housing crisis. We thought we would offer a modest antidote to all the unrelenting gloom. So we’re going to take a brief look at some of the local housing units for sale in Regina — and who knows, maybe eventually other cities too — for less than $250,000.
Here’s the catch — the housing we’ll be highlighting will consist entirely of places with great Walk Scores, Bike Scores, or Transit Scores (and ideally all three) from the eponymous WalkScore.com. They will also look nice, interesting, unusual in some way or have some other vague, subjective potential.
All the usual disclaimers apply — and we should point out that nobody here at Prairie Townscapes is making any commission or receiving any incentives for doing this. All images are from Realtor.ca and the listings are linked below.
2331 Winnipeg St, Regina, SK
$229,900. 88 m2
3 bedroom, 1 bathroom
Neighbourhood (according to Realtor.ca): Al Ritchie
Walk Score: 77 Very Walkable
Transit Score: 46 Some Transit
Bike Score: 77 Very Bikeable
Definitely one of the boldest house re-dos I’ve seen in Regina, this character house (as the kids say) is in an up-and-coming part of town with interesting local businesses nearby, hospital, and some schools. One advantage is you would be able to re-do the backyard any way you like. Check out the listing here.
1918 Cameron St, Regina SK
$219,900 126 m2
3 bedroom, 1 bathroom
Neighbourhood (according to Realtor.ca): Cathedral
Walk Score: 90 Walker’s Paradise
Transit Score: 54 Good Transit
Bike Score: 71 Very Bikeable
Smack dab in the middle of a collection of houses that look like something from a Wes Anderson film. Regina’s core neighbourhoods are full of these vernacular character homes that require some TLC. It looks like this one has gotten it. A nice backyard hangout zone with some vegetable garden space, which is increasingly important in this age of grocery greedflation. Check out the listing here.
2056 Princess St, Regina, SK
$194,950. 78 m2
3 bedroom, 1 bathroom
Neighbourhood (according to Realtor.ca): Cathedral
Walk Score: 57 Somewhat Walkable
Transit Score: 47 Some Transit
Bike Score: 82 Very Bikeable
In quiet, charming, but rapidly upgrading west Cathedral, this house dates back to the roaring 1920s. With that dining space and chandelier I feel like this would be a great place to host a dinner party. Another house with some appealing outdoor hang space and practical veg production zone. You could really go wild customizing this place to your liking. Check out the Listing Here.
