More affordable, charming, walkable houses in Canada for sale under $250,000
We’re back with more Regina “Housing Highlights.”
You’ve probably been reading a lot in the news lately about Canada’s housing crisis. We thought we would offer a modest antidote to all the unrelenting gloom. So we’re going to take a brief look at some of the local housing units for sale in Regina — and who knows, maybe eventually other cities too — for less than $250,000.
Here’s the catch — the housing we’ll be highlighting will consist entirely of places with great Walk Scores, Bike Scores, or Transit Scores (and ideally all three) from the eponymous WalkScore.com. They will also look nice, interesting, unusual or wacky in some way or have some other vague, subjective potential.
All the usual disclaimers apply — and we should point out that nobody here at Prairie Townscapes is making any commission or receiving any incentives for doing this. All images are from Realtor.ca and the listings are linked below.

Live in a fairy-tale gingerbread house. At less than $130,000, it’s clear Regina’s supply of bargains is not running out anytime soon. Highlights of this vernacular, revival-esque house include a fun upstairs bedroom loft, a basement bedroom for your visiting friends from Toronto (who will be jealous at your homeowner status), and those distinctly early-modern details, all in a walkable neighbourhood not far from downtown Regina. (Personally I would re-do the kitchen.) The backyard is also a blank slate — let your imagination run wild! Check out the listing here.
2172 Rae Street, Regina SK
$225,000 157 m2

Your future Victorian dream house, in a prime location. The money you save on car-dependency can help restore this hidden gem to its once and future glory. With quite a lot of work, the cheap flipper accoutrements, and signs of wear, age (and asset value strip-mining) can be cleared away and a lovely character house, complete with wrap-around balcony, could be yours! I never said this was going to be easy. Check out the listing here.
1954 Cameron St, Regina, SK

Another steal of an urban chateau with charming vintage details and ready-for-entertaining backyard. Everything looks bright and cozy, like a fine Swedish apartment. But instead, it’s a house in Regina’s hippest neighbourhood, for less than $240,000. Check out the Listing Here.
